The State, situated
on the eastern coast at the southern tip of the Indian Peninsula, has
a coastline of about 1000 km long. It is bounded on the east by the
Bay of Bengal, on the South by Indian Ocean, on the West by Kerala and
Karnataka states and on the north by Andhra Pradesh. Tamil Nadu, the
gateway to the south, the land of Tamils and Temples, offers everything
that interest a visitor...clean and quiet unspoilt hill stations, beautiful
beaches, magnificent temples with towering gopurams, waterfalls, historical
monuments, art, culture, heritage and many more. This warm and hospitable,
traditional and tranquil and ever most fascinating land, is the home
of Dravidian art and culture, characterized best by the amazingly ornate
temples with their soaring towers known as gopurams. A trip through
Tamil Nadu is very much a temple hop between such places as Kanchipuram,
Chidambaram, Kumbakonam, Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Madurai, Kanyakumari
and Rameshwaram. |
