Sikkim is a small
mountain state in the eastern Himalayas. This tiny state, very rich
in flora and fauna, is today, providing an enchanting new world of friendly,
extrovert people, serene monastic settlements and fabulous vistas. Gangtok,
the capital of Sikkim occupies the west side of a long ridge flanking
the Ranipul river. The scenery is spectacular and there are excellent
views of the entire Kanchenjunga range from many points in the vicinity.
Many people expect Sikkim to be a smaller version of Kathmandu. Its
not, but it is an interesting and pleasant place to stay and people
here are exceptionally friendly. |

Besides,
Gangtok being a hill station, there are different places to visit like
the Tsuk-La-Khang, a royal chapel of the Buddhist principal place of
worship and assembly. It also has a large collection of scriptures.
Its a beautiful and impressive building, and its interior is covered
with murals. Lavishly decorated altars hold images of the Buddha. |

The Namgyal Institute
of Tibetology is a unique institute that promotes research of the language
and traditions of Tibet, as well as of Buddhism. It has one of the largest
collection of books and scripts on Buddhism.
On the other
side of the Ranipul valley is the Rumtek monastery which is visible
from Gangtok and is 24 kms away from road. |
